Circular building with Lokhorst

Construction company Lokhorst is the first circular contractor in Europe to work on its own waste. By learning in its own circular office, the company is taking a lead in circular construction. In a circular challenge, waste has been upcycled into a high-profile interior.

From 1,500 kilos of waste fibres, 600 kilos of recycled plastics and 225 kilos of reused wood, a high-profile circular environment has been created. There are 150 workplaces for the people who make Lokhorst stand out

In 1934, Dries Lokhorst, initially with his partner Welagen, registered his company with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Haarlem. As a brand new entrepreneur, he worked long hours. Hands-on work on the building site during the day and paperwork at home in the evenings. In the years that followed, his five sons reinforced the company. The culture of the former family business has continued unchanged ever since: honest, open, careful.

Pioneer in circular building

Together with TRIBOO, the circular supply chain that up-cycled waste into speech-making furnishings, Lokhorst is taking the first steps towards taking responsibility for the valuable raw materials that are thrown away unconsciously every day.

A mega conference table made of old refrigerators, chairs 3D printed by a robot, reused sheet piling that has been in the water for 80 years to cover old cupboards, tables made of waste fibres and landing islands made of compressed straw. Even the conference table, the signing and the waste separation stations are made of waste fibres.

After having taken up the challenge within its own organisation and learning how to achieve circular solutions together, Lokhorst's ambition is to also make its construction site circular and to tackle projects with clients in a circular manner from now on.

The unique design contains no toxic substances. It is therefore much healthier to work on. Instead, each product consists of good materials that can be easily reused. After the agreed lifespan has been reached, the raw materials, which were once waste, can be given a new life.

With the help of the innovative techniques from our circular HUBs, every fibre and every gramme of plastic gets a place in a new form. We do this without adding new raw materials
