How to turn 500 worthless McDonald's cups into 1 valuable circular table made from your own waste

McDonald's Netherlands serves more than 100 million hot and cold drinks in cups & to its customers every year, most of which end up in McDonald's waste. This project investigated the possibility of re- and up-cycling cups and re-using them in interior elements that can be used as building blocks for the circular furnishing in McDonald's restaurants.

The project is divided into three phases: feasibility, pilot and roll-out. In the first phase, the possibility of converting used cups into furniture panels was investigated. In the second phase, a pilot table was made from the company's own waste in a size of 500x600mm. Per table 500 cups were used for soft drinks, milkshakes, coffee and tea. In the third phase, research is being done on how to achieve upscaling.
