WHAT IS FSC?

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is the first international hallmark with strict requirements for sustainable and social forest management, supported by governments, companies and environmental organisations. It has two levels, where FSC 100% guarantees that the wood comes entirely from responsibly managed forests.

What are the requirements of the quality mark / logo?

The FSC label imposes strict requirements:

Forests with high nature value and vulnerable forest areas are left alone.

Logging along watercourses and on steep slopes is not allowed due to the risk of erosion.

After felling trees, the forest must be given the chance to recover: no more wood should disappear than can grow.

In addition to requirements for forest management, FSC also has social requirements. FSC ensures sufficient wages and responsible working conditions for forest workers. This helps to combat poverty and prevents inhabitants from having to resort to illegal felling and burning of forest for agricultural land in order to survive.

How is the control arranged?

The monitoring of the FSC label is done by independent certifying organisations.
